Dance Moms - Just For You!

Drop one daughter off at dance class, pick up son from baseball practice, pick up dinner at McDonalds, pick up other daughter from softball and deliver to dance class, pay bills while watching both daughters practice for the recital. Does this sound like an average day in your hectic life? Are you beginning to feel like you can’t keep up? Maybe you have noticed that the scale is nudging upward, or your clothes don’t fit as nicely as they used to. If you put on your swimsuit today, would you feel terrific in it?

Stop for a moment and think about your priority list. Name your top three or four priorities to yourself, then keep reading.

Were YOU anywhere near the top of your list? What about your health? The nature of many women is to take great care of everyone else. As mothers who want the best for their kids (possibly all of the things you didn’t get to experience as a kid), it is very easy to put the kids’ activities and schedules above you own. The problem is that this is the perfect set-up for weight gain! If you were thinking that those extra pounds crept on because you have failed, you are wrong. You have never failed a diet plan… the diet plan failed you.

Losing weight is about making yourself a priority. It’s not about dieting, it’s about lifestyle change. Below are some tips to help you get started.

  • Start an uprising! Gather other interested dance moms, and use your daughters’ class time to briskly walk around the neighborhood of the dance studio.
  • Start a support group with other dance moms who are interested in making a lifestyle change. While sitting in the lobby waiting for dance class to be over, share goals with each other, and talk over tips and strategies to stay focused and positive.
  • Set goals that are specific and short term. For example, “when I eat Chinese buffet this evening, I will eat vegetables first, then I will sample other items.”
  • Make a grocery list and try to find time to shop every single week. Have a snack or meal before you go to the grocery store. Never go hungry.
  • Use dessert plates for dinner.
  • Always leave something on your plate.
  • Schedule as much time as possible to devote toward yourself. Use that time to plan a meal, write in a food journal, stretch, walk—anything that is just for you.

Remember that today you are a product of the choices you made yesterday. So start now, and tomorrow you will already begin to feel in control and better about yourself. For more weight loss tips and information on making your health your priority, log on to www.eucrasia.net.
