Tap Into It!
by Terry Clark
With fast food being a way of life, it is so easy to
fall into the trap of convenience verses what's really good for you.
We've all heard the old saying, "You are what you eat." Well,
it's true! Dancers are athletes and they need a balanced diet to fuel
their body. A proper diet helps with performance, the ability to learn
and stamina.
Starting with the basicswater, water and more
water! Dancers need to stay hydrated and keep the joints lubricated.
Water is the best medicine. Cut out sodas. Soda is considered a food
and will not re-hydrate your body. Instead, you have the false feeling
that you have quenched your thirst, when in fact, you have not. Power
drinks are not needed unless you are dancing outside in the sun for
over two hours. They also are loaded with sugar.
Protein for energy can be handled with nuts as snack.
They're excellent for you and kids love them. Cut out the candy bars
and hard candypure sugar. Sugar lowers your resistance.
Don't skip breakfast. Starting the day with a sensible
meal will do more for your well being than you can imagine. Wheat toast
(not white), juice, milk, eggs, oatmeal, high fiber and grain cereals,
and fruit are excellent for you. Your ability to learn will increase.
Put an apple, orange, veggies or some yogurt in with lunch instead of
having potato chips or french fries. There's no nutrition in fries or
chips, just fat.
Performers need an extra boost. So, when it's time
for the show, have some pasta! Otherwise, cut the burgers out and have
chicken, turkey or fish. These few tips will lead to a better dancer
with a better physique, better skin and more energy.
